1. General Information about the SGI/IRIX System & Workstations

For the CFD labs you should use the SGI/IRIX workstations in the MEB 324.   There are two workstations set up for the project, m38 and m39.  Workstation m38 is has 256 MB of RAM while m39 has 128 MB, but both have the same speed of CPU.  So either machine will basically be just as fast as the other.

General questions about using the workstations can be directed at myself or to Khee Teck Wong.  His
office number is MEB XXX, local $$$$, and his email address ktwong@enme.ucalgary.ca.  Printed
output can be obtained on the Departmental printers, for which everyone should have an allocated quota. If you are interested in using the color printer in Math Science 723 for obtaining some color output, please contact Bryan Gooding (gooding@acs.ucalgary.ca) in Math Science 718 for a tutorial on how to use the printer.  The color printing there is OK and costs about $1 per page.

You probably will not have enough disk space in your departmental account for the project.  In order to get around this , you can make use of the directory "/scratch". This is a temporary spot to store your files, and is accesible from both m38 and m39. The following are some points to keep in mind or follow when using the /scratch system:
